Candy Cane Christmas Cookie Recipe 


1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup sifted confectioners sugar
1 egg
1-1/2 tsp. almond flavoring OR 3/4 teaspoon peppermint flavoring
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2-1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. red food coloring

Thoroughly mix butter sugar, egg, and flavorings. Add flour and salt. Mix well.

Divide dough in half and mix in 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring.

Chill all dough about 2 hours in refrigerator.

Preheat oven to 375.

Roll dough into 4-inch strips. Carefully twist together white and red dough strips, like a rope. Place on baking sheet, and curve top to form a cane shape.

Bake 9 minutes. While still warm, remove from pan and sprinkle with candy and sugar mixture.

Yield:  About 30 cookies.
